Braking system for a toy car?

I have a project where we make a small car about 12 inches long, & 6 inches wide.The car is not remote controlled and we need to construct a braking system that will make the car stop at exactly 20 meters. The car will be propelled by a launching pad that pushes it. Any ideas for a braking system that will stop it exactly 20 meters(65feet)?
