Writers: Is it possible to turn a normally unlikeable person into a loveable character?

Absolutely. Why not? J.K. Rowling did it with Severus Snape. In the beginning, he was a sly, dark, and ruthless professor at Hogwarts. In the end, he was the bravest man Harry ever knew. It's possible. You just have to be a VERY good writer.
