Why wont my lawn mower start?

I have a self propelled I pull the rope it usually starts on the first pull. After using the lawn mower I sprayed it off the next day My lawn mower started right up after 20 minutes of use I took a break and when I went back to use it it would not start. Could I have messed it up by spraying it off? after all it did start the first time..
